Feasting with Nephi

Life has been wonderfully full around here lately, and I realized it’s been far too long since I’ve sat down to write to you.

There have been some exciting changes in our family over the past few months.

Our daughter recently received her mission call, and before long she’ll be heading off to serve the Lord. As a mom, I have moments where I’m incredibly excited…and moments where I wonder how the house is going to feel so quiet. Mostly, though, I’m filled with gratitude.

And if that weren’t enough excitement, I’m also about to receive a brand-new title: Grandma!

Our first grandbaby is on the way, and I could not be more excited. I have long believed that some of the wisest, kindest, happiest people on earth are grandmas. I’m thrilled that I finally get to join the club.

With all of these wonderful changes happening, I’ve found myself thinking even more about how the Lord guides us through different seasons of life. Sometimes revelation comes during major life events. Sometimes it comes quietly while we’re reading the scriptures on an ordinary Tuesday morning.

That thought brings me to something I’m especially excited to share.

I Had the Opportunity to Visit The Thinning of the Veil Podcast

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of sitting down with Tia Smith from The Thinning of the Veil podcast.

If you’re familiar with Tia’s work, you know she spends a great deal of time teaching the doctrine of family history, revelation, and the ways the Lord can guide us as we participate in His work on both sides of the veil.

Our conversation explored patterns of revelation in the Book of Mormon. Of course I wanted to talk about the Book of Mormon. I love that book and I find so much comfort, information, revelation, and a deep yearning to be part of the Lord’s work every single day within those pages.

One of the things I love most about the Book of Mormon is that it doesn’t just tell us that people received revelation; it shows us how they prepared for it, how they recognized it, what they did with it, and what happened afterward.

When you start looking for those patterns, you begin to notice that the Lord often teaches His children in consistent ways. The same pattern Nephi, Lehi, Mormon, and Moroni used can help us recognize His voice in our own lives.

During the podcast we talked about questions like:

• What patterns of revelation appear over and over in the Book of Mormon?
• How can we recognize those same patterns today?
• What prevents us from recognizing revelation?
• How can we become more confident that the impressions we receive are truly from the Lord?

It was such a delightful conversation, and I hope it encourages you to dive even deeper into your own scripture study.
